Internship Experience with CRLLS

I am Jessica, a year 3 student from BALS (Chinese). I am grateful for this internship opportunity to try many unprecedented things. During the internship, I gained an understanding of different stages of research studies, and I learned new skills in linguistics. It was a memorable experience for me to explore various topics related to language studies. Besides, I want to thank my colleagues, who give me many chances to attempt different works and patiently teach us.

My name is Lina and I am a student from BA Language Studies majoring in Chinese. It is my pleasure to intern and be a member of CRLLS. Through this internship, I have a deeper understanding of the system of Cantonese. Also, I got the opportunity to have the experience of doing experiments and get to know how to be a good researcher. I want to thank everyone for giving me a lot of help and giving me this opportunity. This experience is unique and it will be helpful for my future career.

I am LI YUFAN Phoenix, studying in BA (Language studies) & BEd (EL) double degree programme. I am grateful to be a part of CRLLS as a student intern this summer. In a rotation system, my main role was to support the Multilingual Assessment Instrument for Narratives project. The internship programme also allowed me to work with different staff and be exposed to different areas and tasks. I gained first-hand experience in research tool development and tried applying multimedia software and programming languages in linguistics. Besides, under the patient guidance of my supervisor, I continued to absorb new knowledge and step out of my comfort zone. This project has deepened my understanding of research projects and the role of a researcher.

I'm Tsz studying art education. I am grateful for the opportunity to intern at CRLLS during the summer. During the internship, I gained a lot of valuable experiences, such as understanding more about the concerns of researchers when conducting research. I gained not only technical knowledge in research-based work, but also communication skills, time management, and courage in the face of something new. The knowledge I gained will help me to face the real world post-graduation. I would like to thank everyone who patiently helped guide our interns.

I am JIANG HAINING Bella from BEd(CL). I am delighted to have the opportunity to intern at CRLLS. During my internship, I participated in a rotation system and worked with different researchers, which exposed me to different research areas and directions of linguistics. By participating in the experiment in person, I got a deep understanding of how to conduct a linguistics experiment, including design concepts, pre-experiment preparation and follow-up work. The internship also taught me how to use programming software to analyse data. Besides, I also designed my language experiment and used DOLD to collect data, which was very useful for my honour project design. This internship was a great opportunity to explore my interest in studying linguistics and to gain valuable experience for my future study and career development.
